International dancehall deejay, Sean Paul, will soon be officially unavailable, as he reportedly proposed to his long-time girlfriend – Jodi ‘Jinx’ Stewart (pictured below) – on New Years Eve (December 31, 2010).

She said yes, but no word on a wedding month or date as yet. Sean Paul is said to be back in the studio at this time, recording tracks for his next album release.

Kartels B-day Gaza Gala

This coming Friday and Saturday, Vybz Kartel celebrates his birthday at The Building and Club Jamaica Jamaica (St. Ann) respectively. The events will feature live performances by di Techae and the members of the Empire, along with music by Chromatic, Rolexx, Richie Feelings and Total Eclipse.

Clovis Cartoon addresses Kartel and Bleaching

Today’s Clovis cartoon in the Jamaica Observer newspaper addresses the current controversy surrounding dancehall deejay Vybz Kartel’s apparent bleaching, allegedly through the use of ‘cake soap’. It shows a bleached-face Kartel accosting a woman for using his ‘bleaching soap’ to wash his clothes.

Ms. Hill Kicks off her extended tour in Brooklyn

Lauryn Hill kicked off her first extended tour on Dec 28 in Williamsburg Brooklyn.  However she ended up being four hours late seemingly due to weather.  Her Dj and Band awaited her arrival with fans who soon turned hostile, throwing bottles and cups onstage as the minutes turned into hours fans began writing notes on cards with statements like ” YOU JUST LOST ONE”.  Soon after the bottles and cups started flying the Keyboard Player taped a sign on his kit that read ” I WAS ON TIME”.

A witness told NY TIMES that Ms. Hill arrived shortly after 12 midnight and had to be carried in to avoid the snow.

By the time Ms. Hill hit the stage there were cheers and a few boos  amongst the crowd.  She acknowledged her tardiness and apologized thus for it, saying ” I apologize for being late but there is alot goes on into getting this out to you…you know its not easy…and i don’t apologize for that…you know i got love for you Brooklyn….I sacrificed my entire twenties trying to give you love….So when i hear people complain, I dont know what to tell you”

One should consider the Snow as a possible culprit for her arrival.  Borough streets from Williamsburg to Sheepshead Bay remained unplowed more than 72 hours after the city’s fifth-worst snowstorm dumped two feet of snow on the NY area.   Elevated subway tracks — common in the BK borough were rendered impassable for nearly three days.
