Twins of Twins Trial & Error Vol 9 finally released

June 29th, 2011 | By

After months of delay, Twin of Twins are releasing Stir It Up Vol. 9.

The long awaited album was scheduled for release back in March.  However upon legal review the release date was pushed back as lawyers were checking to make sure there were not any breaches of the law.

The album has since been cleared and was digitally released yesterday.  The physical version of the CD will be made available on July 6.

“There was a lot of tug of war between distribution and certain legality but it’s finally coming out and it’s going to be out on June 28.  There was a delay and almost a stop order but we fight and mek sure seh it go through,” Patrick Gaynor (one half of the duo) noted.  Throughout the delay, he said they have been in the studio adding to the album to make it as current as possible.

Since the album was “at the press” for more than a month many things were added since then and Gaynor says fans will be getting a special treat.

“Some interesting things been happening weh wi know people woulda waan hear our take on it. So wi a go do a Stir It Up Vol. 9 1/2 to make up for lost time,” he said though he remained tight-lipped about what would actually be included on it.

“I am feeling good. A di fans dem mek wi continue ’cause if a did fi di music industry alone Twin of Twins would never be.  We were just as frustrated as the fans.  A whole heap a frustration build up so mi kinda really happy seh it a come out now,” he concluded.

I-Octane vs. Free Willy Music

June 29th, 2011 | By

I-Octane is planning to sue after a song he recorded as a demo for Bounty Killer was released under his own name by producers.

I-Octane recorded the demo, Woman Mi Seh, for producer Arthur Wale of Free Willy Music so it could be given to Bounty Killer.

He stated explicitly however that he wrote the song in the form of Bounty.  He then demoed the tune how Killa would sound, sends back the track to producers and 5 months later producers release the song as an I-Octane track.

When it comes to his own image, songs, and lyrics he insists on keeping it clean and culturally based.  I-Octane has made it clear on numerous occasions that he does not drink alcohol though the tune’s lyrics state;

When mi a party and a drink Hennessy/ Tell har seh mi caan tame/ Man a gyalis from before mi start drive Range/ Ova da body ya woman a gwaan bad out a road/ bruk fight and fling stab out a road.”

I-Octane said he got even more upset when he contacted the producer by phone saying,

“Mi call di man and him seh if mi waan vex, mi vex.  Him seh look how long him ask mi fi voice fi him and mi a go round him.”

Arthur Wale has not said much concerning the track but has indicated he will only speak to Ray Alexander, I-Octane’s manager.   Alexander, however, said the producer would be contacted by I-Octane’s lawyer.

Meanwhile, if the producer does not withdraw the song soon, I-Octane says he will most definitely sue.

“Mi nuh like dat. Mi ago sue dem. Mi put a stop to the song. How him a try mash up my reputation and my character? If di man waan mi fi voice fi him, why him nuh ask mi fi voice a good song weh represent me? Yuh caan ramp wid mi career dem way deh,” he said.

I-Octane wants to make it clear to his fans that he has not changed.

“I don’t want my fans to feel like dem put so much confidence in I-Octane and mi just switch pon dem. I am a songwriter, mi can write fi every artiste. When yuh creative like that, you haffi write di song how di artiste ago sound.”

He is also concerned about the new tune affecting current and future endorsements.

“It might affect any future endorsements. Dem sign you fi how dem see you at the time. Dem ago drift away from you ’cause dem nuh want dem brand associate with that. Dem sign Octane as a cultural artiste,” said I-Octane, who is a Digicel brand ambassador.

Listen to the tune in question right here.

25 DALETH. My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.

26 I have declared my ways, and thou heardest me: teach me thy statutes.

27 Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works.

28 My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.

29 Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously.

30 I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid [before me].

31 I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O LORD, put me not to shame.

32 I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.

33 HE. Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it [unto] the end.

34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with [my] whole heart.

35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.

36 Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.

37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; [and] quicken thou me in thy way.

38 Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who [is devoted] to thy fear.

39 Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments [are] good.

40 Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.

41 VAU. Let thy mercies come also unto me, O LORD, [even] thy salvation, according to thy word.

42 So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word.

43 And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in thy judgments.

44 So shall I keep thy law continually for ever and ever.

45 And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

46 I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed.

47 And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.

48 My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.

Psalms 119-The longest Psalm-1 thru 24

June 27th, 2011 | By

1 ALEPH. Blessed [are] the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.

2 Blessed [are] they that keep his testimonies, [and that] seek him with the whole heart.

3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.

4 Thou hast commanded [us] to keep thy precepts diligently.

5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!

6 Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.

7 I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments.

8 I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.

9 BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed [thereto] according to thy word.

10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.

11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

12 Blessed [art] thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.

13 With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth.

14 I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as [much as] in all riches.

15 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.

16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

17 GIMEL. Deal bountifully with thy servant, [that] I may live, and keep thy word.

18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.

19 I [am] a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me.

20 My soul breaketh for the longing [that it hath] unto thy judgments at all times.

21 Thou hast rebuked the proud [that are] cursed, which do err from thy commandments.

22 Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept thy testimonies.

23 Princes also did sit [and] speak against me: [but] thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.

24 Thy testimonies also [are] my delight [and] my counsellors.

U-17 REGGAE BOYZ DRAW WITH FRANCE

June 25th, 2011 | By

France scooped up a late point in a 1-1 draw with Jamaica in their Group B encounter at the Estadio Universitario in Monterrey yesterday. The Reggae Boyz came out full of confidence helping them to take the early lead, but the sweltering temperatures in the stadium nicknamed ‘El Volcan’ seemed to be affecting each side.

Jamaica soon capitalized on Frances sluggish start.  Omar Holness’ long-range throw found an unmarked Andre Lewis who neatly chested the ball down to drive home into lower-left corner.  Hoping to double their lead, Jamaica pushed forward to no avail.

Although not really tested again until the 36th minute, the Jamaican keeper did well to block a rocket from France’s Benzia.  The french were pressuring the Reggae Boyz, who appeared to be having trouble  pushing the ball forward.  Though, before the break Oshane Jenkins hammered a long-range chance, that took a bounce just before reaching Beunardeau’s net.

France apparently no longer suffocated by the blistering Mexico heat at Estadio Universitario, controlled the second half completely.  Benzia, who had been the brightest player for Les Bleuets finally found his team an equalizer.  After being denied by an offside just moments earlier, the striker hit for his third goal at the tournament in the 58th minute, touching to the right of two JA defenders to fire home a low shot.

Trench then kept the match level, when he blocked Laborde’s effort.  The Jamaicans began to fall apart as the match approached its end, often committing clumsy tackles in their exhaustion.

In the 70th minute, the French had their chance to take the lead after a series of tackles in the area saw Romario Williams get booked for tripping Benzia on the dribble.  But Jordan Ikoko fluffed the proceeding spot-kick with a curled effort wide.

By the 79th minute JA was done when substitute Jason Wint was shown a red card for a dangerous tackle.

Unfortunately the draw ends Jamaica’s slim hopes of progressing and earns the Frenchmen a second place in Group B.

France will play next on 30 June in Queretaro against the second-place finishers in Group F.

Spragga, Vegas and Tony Rebel thoughts on BUJU

June 24th, 2011 | By

After the heavy sentence handed down to BUJU yesterday, dancehall and reggae artists alike have begun speaking out via Facebook, Twitter and local media.

Tony Rebel told the Star that a prison sentence is not the end of the road for anyone, giving examples of historic black leaders who have been systematically imprisoned and have still come out to become the biggest verbal, revolutionary and literary liberators for African people around the globe.

“We’ve seen Marcus Garvey our first national hero, went to prison and came back and he is what he is, we’ve seen Mandela walk out of prison into presidency in South Africa, we’ve seen the great Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, all of these people….”

He added that he hopes Buju will use all of those moments to put his life into perspective and use it to inspire him as he himself has inspired many individuals.

Spragga made some valid points via Twitter noting the complacency of those saying that the man was set up in one breath and that his sentence could have been much worse in another;

Buju gets 10 years..Phuck This Law when you can be set up like this and sent away. We need a intelligent revolution people. We being pussies

How long shall they kill, entrap, victimize, profile, stifle, humiliate and belittle our prophets while we stand aside and look.have we no Brains

Mr. Vegas already recorded and released a track he described as a dedication to Buju entitled Informer.  He like many other online well wishers tweeted “we will be fans for life.”

Listen here

Buju’s lawyer, David Oscar Markus, says the artist may only be required to serve six of the 10 years due to time already served and for good behavior.

Buju trial update- Buju sentenced to 10 years

June 23rd, 2011 | By

Buju Banton was sentenced to 10 years today by U.S. Magistrate Jim Moody in the Sam M Gibbons US Court in Tampa Florida.  He will be incarcerated at the FCI prison facility in Miami.

Despite pleas for leniency, letters and character witnesses they still managed to slap Buju with the heavy sentence.

Buju seemed resigned to accept his fate and calmly accepted the verdict.

His attorney David Oscar Markus has indicated his intent to appeal the guilty verdict and has made clear that he would move with briskness to secure the artiste’s release.

The courthouse was packed as the sentence was handed down.  Members of the artist family, his manager and close friends like Wayne Wonder, came out to support.  Many people had to be turned back due to the courtroom being full to capacity.

The sentencing hearing lasted just over an hour and many of  Buju’s supporters and family members cried openly.

Buju underwent two trials after the first trial ended in a mistrial in 2010.

He was however found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute five or more kilos of cocaine, using the wires to facilitate a drug offense and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.

Ian Thomas and James Mack both plead guilty after they were held in a sting operation attempting to purchase cocaine from federal agents in a police controlled warehouse in Tampa.

The US then built their case around wiretap and video evidence which caught Banton tasting cocaine and making several statements of the purchase and sale of large amounts of contraband.

If the appeal is denied and the sentence sticks, at least he may be eligible for a split sentence in which case the artist would only serve half the time actually allocated to him, maybe 5 or 6 years.  Better but still not nice….The system set.

DHU sends out, prayers and well wishes to our artist Buju, knowing that when he returns to his element his message will be ever-stronger, deeper and richer still… God have a plan for every man.
