November 30th, 2011 | By

AMIDST rumors that he escaped custody early this morning, Deejay Vybz Kartel, was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Gun Court Division of the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court this morning.

He is set to return to court on December 21 when documents involving the murder of Barrington ‘Bossie’ Bryan will be served on the defense.

Kartel was also ordered to return to court on February 3 when a preliminary enquiry pertaining to Bryan’s murder is expected to be handed over to his defense team.

He was arrested on October 1 and has repeatedly been denied bail when he appeared in court.

Police dispel jail break rumors

November 30th, 2011 | By

POLICE have denied claims that Vybz Kartel escaped from the New Horizon Adult Remand Centre in the middle of the night.

Reports stemming from a apparent online prank surfaced this morning alleging that the deejay and 7 other inmates held guards hostage at gunpoint minutes after 1AM.

The story went on to claim that Kartel and the inmates stole uniforms and a vehicle belonging to the Correctional Services Department before escaping.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green spoke to the press this morning refuting claims of a jail break by the artist.

Similarily police at Denham Town Police station, the police station nearest to the remand centre were also unaware of the reports as was the CCN who hadn’t heard any such thing of a jail break.

Buju gets transferred again

November 30th, 2011 | By

Buju Banton is being relocated again.

After spending two months in what has been described as horrible conditions at Limestone County Correctional Institution, a private prison in Groesbeck, Texas, Buju is now in transit to Federal Correctional Institution Miami.

The low security facility in Miami was originally recommended by Judge James Moody, who oversaw the deejay’s criminal case.

Buju’s attorney, David Markus described the facilities in Texas as one of the worst places you can imagine.  He explained that the facility was filled with Mexicans who were awaiting deportation.

The Gargamel Music family has expressed great thanks to the Jamaican consulate, who immediately sent a representative to report first hand on the conditions in Texas, and to Judge Moody, who wrote a letter to the BOP on Buju’s behalf.

Gargamel Music is especially thankful for Buju’s attorney, David Oscar Markus of Markus & Markus Law, who worked diligently with the prison in Texas, the Jamaican consulate, the Bureau of Prisons and The Court to make this unprecedented move happen.

A benefit concert is set to be held December 3rd.  Proceeds from the concert will help pay the legal fees associated with the entertainer’s appeal to his conviction and 10 year prison sentence.

The lineup includes Delly Ranx, Gramps Morgan, Nadine Sutherland, Glen Washington and Norris Man among others.

Conrad Murray sentenced to 4 Years

November 30th, 2011 | By

Michael Jackson’s former physician Conrad Murray was sentenced to the maximum four years behind bars.

The Los Angeles Superior Court Judge handed down the hard sentence yesterday (November 29), less than a month after Murray was convicted in the highly publicized Michael Jackson death trial.

Shortly after sentencing, an LA Sheriff spokesperson told journalists that Murray would likely end up serving “a little less than two years.”

Due to overcrowding, most county jail sentences are immediately cut in half, and given the 46 days credit Murray has already been given, he is looking at even less than that.

Murray’s lawyers said they believed the sentence was unnecessarily long.

Barrington Levy to drop 29th studio album

November 30th, 2011 | By

Internationally acclaimed Dancehall/Reggae singer, Barrington Levy, will unveil his 29th and, possibly, last studio album this week entitled It’s About Time.

It’s About Time, is being touted as Levy’s  most anticipated work since the 1998 release of Living Dangerously.

The project will be released via Black Roses Entertainment and will similarly feature several prominent local and international acts.

Snoop, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes and Heavy D all make cameos on the album.

Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, collaborates with Levy for the track, Healthy.  A video for the single is expected to drop early next year.

It’s About Time could mark Levy’s final studio album after the established singjay admitted last year that he believed he’d only tour and record singles once the project hits stores.

Earlier this year, Levy released the hit collaboration single, Gangsters, alongside dancehall heavyweight, Vybz Kartel and singjay, Khago.

The song represents the soundtrack for the upcoming film entitled Gangsters, for which Levy has a starring role.

Wyclef responds to NYPost Claims

November 30th, 2011 | By

Wyclef Jean is defending Yele Haiti after an article was published this week alleging that the charity mismanaged donations.

The New York Post piece claimed that YELE HAITI received $16 million in donations after the massive January earthquake devastated Haiti in 2010, but only “spent just $5.1 million for emergency relief efforts.”

The Post also claimed that Yele Haiti paid $1 million to a Florida food distributor, that they say, doesn’t exist.

Wyclef responded swiftly to the article in a statement via his website describing the NY Post piece as “misleading, deceptive and incomplete.”

Read Wyclef’s Response Below:

The Post conveniently fails to acknowledge that the decisions that Yele made were a response to one of the world’s most catastrophic natural disasters in modern history and required an immediate humanitarian response.  There were no roads, no clean water, no sanitation, no banks, no electricity, no infrastructure. Immediate decisions were made to save lives and alleviate suffering. We made decisions that enabled us to provide emergency assistance in the midst of chaos and we stand by those decisions.  We did the best we could with the available resources. I am proud of the way that Yele handled the crisis on the ground in 2010. We were able to feed, clothe, provide medical assistance and shelter for more than 250 thousand people in need.

What the article doesn’t say is that the construction projects funded by Yele Haiti were responsible for rebuilding an orphanage, building a temporary assistance facility, and had constructed a system of out door toilet and shower facilities in Cite Soliel one of the largest slums in Port-au-Prince.

The Post never highlights that Amisphere Farm Labor was responsible for preparing and delivering close to 100,000 meals. The Samosa SA property referenced by the Post was located in the vicinity of the largest tent camps in Port-au-Prince. Yele chose that location because it was closest to
the people it needed serve.

All of these facts as well as photos and testimonials were readily available to the Post for their story. Unfortunately, they chose not to include these facts and instead chose to imply that Yele “squandered” donors money. Nothing could be further from the truth…READ MORE HERE
