The Soca Queen gave an energetic and soulful set which brought an added element of excitement to the show.

In addition to performing several of her hot soca tracks Destra paid tribute to R&B superstar Whitney Houston and exhibited her-own vocal range.

Destra belted out popular hits I Will Always Love You, I’m Every Woman and I Wanna Dance with Somebody effortlessly, letting Jamaica and the world know just why this Soca ambassador fits so perfectly into the Jazz and Blues Fest line-up.

Destra’s tribute complemented earlier performances by Bobby Brown and Heads of State members – Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant.

Destra heads back to Trinidad on the Twin Islands for a series of shows including LADIES NIGHT OUT on February 3rdCOCA COLA YOUTH FEST on February 4th and several other performances leading up to the annual Carnival celebrations taking place in the coming weeks.

Celine Dion heats up Jamaica Jazz & Blues 2012

January 30th, 2012 | By

International superstar -Celine Dion delivered for arguably the best staging of Jamaica Jazz and Blues Fest yet.

It was hard to believe that this was Jamaica’s sweetheart’s first ever performance on the island and she sought to make up for lost time as she showered her adoring crowd with affection and apologies for making her biggest fans wait so long.

She entered the stage strong bellowing a loud “Hello Jamaica!” before opening with her hit I Drove All Night.

Dion’s debut JA performance held nothing back as she rolled through memorable classics like Beauty and the Beast, Where Does My Heart Beat Now and Because You Loved Me.

She didn’t seem to mind that the adoring crowd often seemed to drown her out as they sang each tune word for word.

Dion shared the stage with Jamaican Reggae singer, Diana King, who recently returned to the island to unveil some new projects.  The two unleashed a rousing duet performing a spicy reggae laced rendition Treat Her Like A Lady.

Dion’s hour and 45 minute long set featured 4 costume changes and even a wardrobe malfunction as her short embellished Balmain mini dress accidentally flashed patrons in the VIP section.

Nonetheless it was her amazing performances that stole the show as she sang more favorites including It’s All Coming Back To Me Now, All By Myself and the title track from the Titanic movie, My Heart Will Go On.

“In 60 seconds, Dion’s sensual voice drummed senses to my head, driving wild rhythm through my thighs, leaving my most secret parts uncovered, drenched, shaking and ticking to the 60 seconds of sweet surrender,” a fan revealed to the Gleaner.

The lighting on the set was excellent, the performance was incredible, but “We wanted more“, said audience members who were left breathless by the time the singer exited the stage.

Chairman of the Art of Music Productions (AMP), Walter Elmore, and his son, Martin, were brought to tears incapable of shielding their joy.

“I couldn’t help but cry when I looked at my father and saw how emotional he had become. He worked so hard to bring this festival to where it is today,” said the Martin Elmore.

Dion praised and praised Jamaica wishing a Happy 50th year of Independence  and it is clear that this staging of the event will go down in history as one of, if not, the most memorable and undoubtedly hardest to match Jazz and Blues Festival for years to come.
