Break Away Mix-Dexta Daps, Chris Martin, Kabaka-free download

in DHU Free Mix downloads by

This Riddim Mix is addicting. Whether Chimney Records intended or not the melody seems to lull listeners into a sweet trance. Mixed and enjoyed by yours truly since the riddim dropped early this year, I thought its about time to spread the love.

Christopher Martin’s Pirate of the Caribbean and Dexta Daps 1 Minute battle for number the one spot. Kabaka takes on Jamiel and triumphs with Wake Up and See. Masicka rides this riddim like a pro with Fly Ova Dem while Vershon and OCG appear to stand strong against a host of young reggae veterans. This riddim exudes quintessential Chimney style and we love it.

Peter Tosh Son Beat while serving time for Ganja

in Reggae News by
The family of Peter Tosh have recently filed a civil rights suit against the U.S. Department of Justice after the son of the legendary Wailer, 37 year-old Jawara McIntosh was beaten into a coma while serving time in a New Jersey jail on a ganja possession charge.
The February 21st assault resulted in severe head injuries and has since left McIntosh in a coma(now 4 months).
Attorney Jasmine Rand has represented the families of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown and is now representing the Tosh family.
They are also seeking the immediate release of additional information and evidence from the incident, and have sent a request to the Department of Justice, asking for an impartial investigation into what transpired at the jail.

Have the prison authorities become so emboldened after the recent flare up of attacks against young men of color in the streets?

Does this have anything to do with the new administrations hard left stance on immigration? Since the proliferation of legalized ganja in US states it is sickening to believe that young men of color continue to be picked up, charged, convicted and sent to prison for possession of marijuana which is now being used in global pharmaceuticals.
I think its a good time to review one of Tosh’s most recognized anthems Legalize It.
Legalize it – don’t criticize it
Legalize it and i will advertise itSome call it tampee
Some call it the weed
Some call it Marijuana
Some of them call it Ganja

Legalize it – don’t criticize it
Legalize it and i will advertise it

Singer smoke it
And players of instruments too
Legalize it, yeah, yeah
That’s the best thing you can do
Doctors smoke it
Nurses smoke it
Judges smoke it
Even the lawyers too

Legalize it – don’t criticize it
Legalize it and i will advertise it

It’s good for the flu
It’s good for asthma
Good for tuberculosis
Even umara composis

Legalize it – don’t criticize it
Legalize it and i will advertise it

Bird eat it
And they love it
Fowls eat it
Goats love to play with it

Wild Thoughts official video hits 11 million views in one day. The video was shot in Miami’s Little Haiti and conjures memory’s of the 90’s Santana hit it samples while grooving us into the new melody as Rhi Rhi gives us more of her wa wa wa. She effortlessly fuses dancehall trends into her performance. Just think of any top tier artist or even lower level artist in the dancehall. From Beenie, to Gyptian to Chi Chi Ching! Capleton Live LA- That Day Will Come/Jah Jah City

in Reggae News by

Capleton performed to a packed house last saturday night in LA. The Echoplex was shoulder to shoulder by 12 a.m. and the crowd seemed anxious. The Prophet was preceded by a nice segment from Gappy Ranks who had time to stress to the diverse mostly roots crowd that all contemporary music leads back to reggae and that goes for Hip hop and Afro beat he said. This seems the current sentiment in dancehall.

Jay Z was spotted in JA this week and enlisted Damian Jr Gong Marley for a musical tour of Kingston. Jay Z flew in to record some music with Damian and veteran artist Sister Nancy. It sounds like a hit and I ain’t even heard it yet.

Dexta Daps Vs Jabba Vs Charlie Blacks 2017

in Reggae News by

Dexta Daps gets banned from Jabba’s Best of the Best Concert series. As one of the biggest and most reputable reggae shows stateside, Best of the Best offers dancehall heads an opportunity to experience real JA festival vibes without having to actually leave the country.

Allegedly Dex arrived late demanding 10 extra tickets, and intentionally did not perform at his scheduled time saying he was owed money from a prior Jabba promotion the Love and Harmony Cruise 2017 .

This, Jabba says, is what caused the show to go overtime and at 12am when headliner Movado was set to touch the stage curfew authorities shut the show down. Jabba sent out his sincerest apologies via media outlets taking full responsibility and expressing his gratitude to fans while assuring them that this would be a one time occurrence.

The following banning of Dex seems to send a clear sign that the promoter/DJ intends to make good on his promise. Dex on the other hand has a full plate of international attention right now so I don’t see the ban having a major impact on his career stateside. Dex recently dropped his mixtape for free in a move that promises more listenership and marketing no matter what happens. Download that here and his video for Bring it to the Owner (released last month) is said to have broke the internet when it dropped.

I should note that Charlie Blacks complained about a similar incident in a live Instagram vid explaining that he was even listed on the Best of the Best Line up before his management confirmed while still being owed prior an outstanding balance from the promoter/dj For his 9 mile festival performance. Listen to that below.

Yet like Dex has been riding high this year Charly is riding his own waves after scoring a hit on the Billboard charts and gaining record breaking sales he climaxed with a performance on Wendy Williams this month. That’s not bad and the summer just started. Charly performed his hit single Party Animal which was released in 2015 the song broke a milestone in Dancehall with $100 million streams on Spotify. Charly is set to perform at Hot 97’s Summer Jam 2017 and Wendy’s Mixtape Block Party at Coney Island Boardwalk on July 23rd.

Likewise Jabba took to Instagram Live to give his last comment on BOB2017 and is on to the next one now preparing for the Summerfest Cruise set to depart June 30th 2017. Listen to Jabba’s InstaLive on why Movado didn’t perform here.

Usain wins his last Race in a night of nothing but Bolt

in Reggae News by

Organizers of the Racers Grand Prix organized “A Salute to the Legend,” in honor of Usain Bolt on June 10, 2017.

The guardian described the occasion akin to church, a five hour outpouring of exaltation from a crowd of 35,000 to the greatest athlete in Jamaica’s independent history. It was here at the National Stadium in 2002 that he first won the world junior 200m title competing with athletes 3 years older than he was at the time.

Saturday Night June 10th.

When the starting shot rang the air, Bolt made his regular slow start yet by 50 metres he was way ahead as usual. His time of 10.03 seconds was clearly not his best. Though it can easily be attributed to his 2 weeks of missed training and the recent death of his close friend Germaine Mason.

“I think that was possibly one of my worst races….My execution was poor, my start was poor as always. I think in the last bit I lost it a little. But I didn’t expect anything spectacular because I have had a lot of time off. The two weeks I missed was rough. But the people of Jamaica really came out for me, thank you for showing me your support.” Bolt told reporters.

As Bolt crossed the finish line fireworks lit up Kingston’s sky. After jumping in the stands to party with his family, friends and fans he made his way back down to the track where Beenie Man already got the vibes started.

a great man, a great athlete and a great Jamaican. Jamaica’s prime minister, Andrew Holness noted.
